Background

STAC Consulting Engineers was established in 2007 by Gus Venter and Jannie du Toit to provide Structural and Civil Engineering Consulting Services. Gus Venter is a specialist professional structural engineer with 20 years experience. Jannie du Toit is a specialist professional civil technologist with 25 years experience. In 2013, Pravesh Naidoo, a professional structural engineer with 10 years experience, joined STAC as a partner. In 2015, Eric Smit, a professional Mechanical Engineer with 30 years’ experience, joined STAC as a partner.

 


What sets us apart  

The design and site monitoring work gets done by one of the principals of the company.  Either Jannie, Gus or Pravesh will be responsible for the design and liaison with the client and other consultants. This results in quick decisions by the most accountable person throughout the duration of the project.

Marthinus Jacobus Rudolph (Gus) Venter

Qualifications: B.Eng (1987), M.Eng (1989) University of Stellenbosch


Professional Engineer (1997), Registration number 970153.

Gus Venter has 20 years’ experience in the design and monitoring of structural engineering related projects.
He started his professional career as assistant site agent for Group Five Roads on the Taung Dam Project in the Northern Cape Province.


He then worked at Kwezi V3 Engineers (Now Worley Parsons) – a large multi-disciplinary consulting engineering company for 13 years. His career there culminated in being divisional director for the structural engineering division.

Prestigious projects that he was involved with during this period include:

2010 Port Elizabeth World Cup Soccer Stadium in South Africa – He acted as design coordinator for a number of Joint Venture Partners responsible for the concrete bowl design.

Hibernian Towers – 22 Storey Apartment Block in Strand, South Africa

UAE Parachute Training Facility UAE - Large hangar type structure with intricate structural steel elements housing training apparatus used for training paratroopers.

   
General Johannes Petrus (Jannie) du Toit

Qualifications: National Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering (1988)

Jannie du Toit has more than 25 years’ experience in civil engineering services with involvement in numerous projects primarily in the private upmarket residential development, golf estates, mixed use, commercial and industrial park environments.

The expertise obtained during the years in the various stages of projects was from project identification on a prospect level to the final completion - e.g. seeking opportunities and conceptualise the potential project, market research, planning, investigation and reports, coordination of the project professional team, estimates and feasibility studies, design, tender, approval and construction phases.

Jannie worked for GFJ Consulting Engineers which later became Entech Consulting Engineers from 1988 to 1997 as a senior Technologist in the Civil Services department.

He then worked at Kwezi V3 Engineers (Now Worley Parsons) – a large multi-disciplinary consulting engineering company for 9 years. He was an associate and shareholder and was based in the Civil Engineering Development services division.

   

Pravesh Naidoo

Pravesh Naidoo hasover 10 years’ experience in structural design and construction supervision of building and civil engineering structures.

 

He has undertaken the structural engineering design of buildings, sports stadia, office buildings, hospitals, warehouses, airport buildings, train stations, water treatment plant structures, water retaining structures and pedestrian bridges.  His expertise in reinforced concrete and structural steel design covers conceptual design, structural analysis including finite element analysis and frame analysis, 3D modelling and seismic analysis and design. 

 

He was involved with the structural engineering and related co-ordination of the R1,1 bn Nelson Mandela Stadium for the 2010 World Cup.  He has also been a leading member of the structural engineering design team for the 22-storey reinforced concrete framed Hibernian Towers in Cape Town.

 

His work has involved the part-time construction supervision and quality control of all aspects of structural engineering site works.

 

After a corporate career, which included the positions of design engineer at Africon and Building services manager – Structural at WorleyParsons (ex. KV3 Engineers), he joined STAC Consulting Engineers as a partner.
   

Frederik Johannes Joachim (Eric) Smit

Eric Smit is a Professional Engineer and Professional Construction Project Manager with 30 years’ experience in the mechanical engineering profession.  His experience covers the fields of air-conditioning and ventilation systems for buildings and structures, lift and escalator systems, pump installations and health-care systems as well as other specialised mechanical projects.

He started his professional career working for V3 Consulting Engineers as a consulting engineer and managing various projects in the building services industry including water and wastewater pumping installations.

In 1994 he started a business, Smit & Associates Consulting Engineers where he managed several projects including construction supervision, building related mechanical services, tender and contract documentation and management of Joint Building Contracts Committee’s contracts.

In 1998 he was appointed by Law Gibb Consulting Engineers as a Associate Engineer where he was involved in numerous projects with the main focus on the designing of various air-conditioning systems for buildings which included chilled water systems, DX systems and theatre air-conditioning.  He was also involved in fire-protection systems for various buildings.

In 2000 he joined Kwezi V3 Engineers (Now Worley Parsons) where he worked  for 14 years. He was responsible to build a National Mechanical Building Services Division. In 2012 he was promoted to Business Unit Manager and was responsible for all disciplines within the Building Services Sector.  The company restructured in 2012 and he was promoted to Operations Manager responsible for the Western & Eastern Cape Businesses.

In January, 2015 he started at STAC Consulting Engineers as a Director for the Mechanical Division.
